The effect:

Older generation vehicles are often taken out of service for a longer period after the summer season. Moisture from the air or water separated from the fuel actively promotes corrosion in the fuel tank, in fuel supply lines and inside the engine. Aged fuels can cause deposits, the fuel flow is reduced and the injection behavior deteriorates. Dirty nozzles, inlet ducts and valves impair engine operation as a result, increasing pollutant emissions and fuel consumption.
